My ip. As an Amazon WorkSpaces user, I want to find out the public IP address that my WorkSpace uses when I browse the internet. How can I do that?

Resolution

The steps to identify the public IP address that is used differs depending on how you access the internet from your WorkSpace. Follow the steps below for your WorkSpace configuration.

WorkSpace located in a public subnet

  1. Open the Amazon WorkSpaces console.
  2. Select the arrow next to your WorkSpace ID to expand the WorkSpace details. Take note of the WorkSpace IP.
  3. Open the Amazon EC2 console, and then choose Network Interfaces from the Network & Security section of the navigation pane.
  4. In the search box, enter the WorkSpace IP from step 2.
  5. Select the network interface associated with this WorkSpace IP address.
  6. From the Details tab, you can see the Public IPv4 address that your WorkSpace uses when you browse the internet.

Elastic IP addresses are specific to a region. An Elastic IP address in one region cannot be assigned to an instance within a VPC in a different region. Elastic IP addresses remain associated with your AWS account until you explicitly release them. All AWS accounts are limited to five (5) Elastic IP addresses per region. Remember to replace KEYFILE with the path to your private key and SERVER-IP with the public IP address or hostname of your server: $ ssh -N -L 8888:127.0.0.1:80 -i KEYFILE [email protected] Remember that if you are redirecting HTTP requests to the HTTPS port, you must use destination port 443 instead of 80. Now, enter the below command to enable the SSH tunnel between your machine and AWS LightSail server. Ssh -i /locationtoprivatekey -L 8888:127.0.0.1:80 [email protected] Just replace locationtoprivatekey and AWSSERVERIPADDRESS to the actual values and you will have an SSH tunnel created to your WordPress installation. You can sidestep the open IP address issue by using AWS Systems Manager Session Manager. It logs you in to your EC2 instances through the AWS CLI. How AWS routes your connection internally is a bit of a black box, but it does permit you to keep those ports closed to the public Internet.

  1. Open the Amazon WorkSpaces console.
  2. Select the arrow next to your WorkSpace ID to expand the WorkSpace details. Note the WorkSpace IP.
  3. Open the Amazon EC2 console, and then choose Network Interfaces from the Network & Security section of the navigation pane.
  4. In the search box, enter the WorkSpace IP from step 2.
  5. Select the network interface associated with this WorkSpace IP address.
  6. From the Details tab, choose the hyperlinked Subnet ID.
  7. Select the subnet. From the Route table tab, you can see the NAT gateway associated with this subnet. Choose the hyperlinked security group.
  8. From the Details tab, you can see the Elastic IP address that your WorkSpace uses when you browse the internet.

  1. Open the Amazon WorkSpaces console.
  2. Select the arrow next to your WorkSpace ID to expand the WorkSpace details. Note the WorkSpace IP.
  3. Open the Amazon EC2 console, and then choose Network Interfaces from the Network & Security section of the navigation pane.
  4. In the search box, enter the WorkSpace IP from step 2.
  5. Select the network interface associated with this WorkSpace IP address.
  6. From the Details tab, choose the hyperlinked Subnet ID.
  7. Select the subnet. From the Route table tab, you can see the NAT instance elastic network interface associated with this subnet. Choose the hyperlinked network interface.
  8. From the Details tab, you can see the IPv4 Public IP address that your WorkSpace uses when you browse the internet.
